With this blog I plan to chronicle my experience as a Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist (SRNA) in the class of 2021A at Keiser University (Naples, FL) and whatever else gets thrown my way in the meantime. I hope that someone, somewhere can benefit from my words. I don’t intend to blog for monetary gain. Personal life: I am a single mother, with a six-year old girl named Leanna, I had to learn a lot over the years and I am not your typical SRNA. There’s a lot more to come in future posts — hopefully, I’ll cover some of my experience in preparing to apply, applying, interviewing and finally making my decision to attend Keiser University CRNA school.

This is my first blog post. I hope this blog will motivate you to apply to CRNA school and eventually become a CRNA.

How long did you wait before applying to CRNA schools after getting into the ICU? I’m just starting in the ICU at the end of this month and plan to take the GRE soon. But I just don’t want to waste any more time.

Hi ZW,
I work in ICU for a year, 13 months to be exact. Are you a new grad RN in the ICU? I did not take the GRE because I took some graduate science courses and I already have a master’s degree. You only need a high GRE scores if your undergrad science GPA or overall GPA is low or not competitive enough. You can take the CCRN after 1750 hours in the ICU. For CCRN, they require you to put a contact number on your application form to verify that you have indeed work for 1750 hours in an ICU setting. However, it could be another RN or colleague, and they don’t really verify that information as far I know. SO, once you get close to your hours, you can sign up for it. Any questions let me know!

Hello,
I love your blog! It’s very inspiring. I’m an emergency NP with almost 2 years of experience. I did not work in critical care as an RN. Now I’m interested in applying to CRNA school. Do you recommend I go back to working as a bedside RN and get ICU experience?

It would help if you had bedside RN ICU experience to get into CRNA school. I would spend
the minimum amount of year’s required to get into CRNA school (1 and 2 years max) because you’re already overqualified. You’ll breeze through ICU orientation because as an ER NP you got the experience and clinical skills and also overqualified.

I am in the process of currently applying to keiser and wanted to get your feedback on some of the things that the university really wants to see in their application and personal essays. I loved your blog and would love to get some of your personal insight to really strengthen my application! thank you for what you do and your help!
